The NYC Painting Company provides interior painting, exterior painting and cabinet painting for homes and businesses in Manhattan. The company is licensed and insured. Most of what we paint is inside apartment buildings, and much of it is in buildings that are close to a century old or older.
What we paint
- Apartments, co-ops, condos, lofts and townhouses: walls, ceilings, trim and doors.
- Plaster and drywall repair, skim coating and wallpaper removal before paint.
- Kitchen and bathroom cabinets.
- Front doors, window trim, cornices, railings, fences and other exterior surfaces.

Why painting is different in New York
The walls are the first difference. Pre-war buildings have plaster, not drywall, with cracks, old patches and many layers of paint. Getting a smooth finish is repair work first and painting second. Paint that old may contain lead, so sanding and scraping have to be done with lead-safe methods, and New York City's Local Law 1 sets extra duties for owners of rental units.
The building is the second difference. Co-ops and condos commonly ask for a certificate of insurance, set work hours and control the service elevator. Outside, the surfaces are brick, stone, wood and iron on buildings that stand at the sidewalk, and in historic districts the Landmarks Preservation Commission must approve a change of exterior color. The city's Department of Buildings does not require a permit for painting itself.
How a job runs
It starts with a free estimate. We look at the surfaces, talk through colors and sheen, ask about your building's rules and send a written quote that lists the prep, the paint and the number of coats. Before the start date we send your building the insurance paperwork it asks for. On the job we cover floors and furniture, repair and prime the surfaces, paint, and clean up each day. Most rooms take one to two days. At the end we walk the work with you.
